VFX Major Project​

Planning For Major Process

On my Major project i had 4 different ideas. 

1. Having a spaceship flying around central London.

​

2. Tracking a real car and adding extra body to it.

​

3. Have a news report about a Spaceship.

​

4. A shot of 2 characters them talking then all of sudden they see a space ship flying over them.

I have picked to complete the 4th idea.

After thinking about my concept. I wanted to create space ship so i though few ideas and drawn them then finally came with this plan for my space ship.

This is a small preview of my project. This is a test shoot of the film as well.

Filming Step

 

  • Select the location – Empty car park or a park.

  • Plan a shot – mid / wide shot

  • Camera step up – Canon 5d mkiii, Audio mic and actors.

  • Setting up the camera – Set the WB, ISO and the shutter speed to get a clear view of sky.

  • Explain the scene and the script to the actors.

  • Try couple of takes

  • Then do final shot.

 

 

 

​Tracking

 

  • Select the final clips.

  • Render them to tiff image sequence

  • Track with 3d equalizer min 25 tracks

  • Then export trackers, lens distrotion and obj.

 

 

 

Compositing

 

  • Use Nuke to composite

  • Lens Distortion

  • Composite the 3d and 2d insert the track info to 3d

  • Colour correct

  • Make scenes

  • Test render

  • View and examin the test render

  • Final out-put

MotherShip Design

This wasn't in the oringal plan but when i faced few problems i choose to change my script. This is a large mother ship which will be flying beside the earth and scene 3 you will see the small ship exiting this.

Scene 1

This is my work flow for the 1st scene, I have used card to show the background . In this work flow if you look close on left side top i have created sphere and few nodes of noise and a shuffle node those nodes are the basic for the earth 3d object. then i have used RGB lighting to illuminate the highlight of the earth and the transpaent layer over earth  then the darker area of the earth. After completing those flow down the nodes. I have used shuffle node to show the lgithing and the colours such as ground and the cloud then water. Then finaly i added the 3d scene. i used ABC file to render 3d object from maya then exported the texture and i n nuke i used readGeo to get the 3d object and then i projected the texture over the 3d.

The final Scene

This earth was fully created in nuke using 3D space.

Scene 2

On the scene 2 the small craft is deployed from the main ship to the earth. I wanted to show the amosphere entry but didnt had much time to crate that.

Scene 3

This is the 1st scene which starts with film composed.

On this scene i have used same method as other scenes but i think the space ship didnt fit perfectly to the clip i tried bluring the ship to equal as background but it look different to BG. but other then that the ship was colour graded and colour corrected to match the background.

Scene 4

On this scene i had the sky removed and i wanted the space ship to be coming from back of that tree and it to cross over the screen.

Scene 5

This was quit different because of that i have created the spacship to move inside the parking and made the light to match the light in the car park.

the shadow was a plain poly at the buttom and turned the poly transparancy and the ai shadow drops shadow on poly.

Scene 6

in the scene i have created 2D card with partical emitter and multiplyed the output to showlike rocks being picked up by the ship.

​

also i have added lightly fog to the rocks.

Final Render
